AFRAA Workshop at the Aviation Festival 2024

 

AFRAA, for the first time in history, staged a workshop at the world Aviation Festival event.

Themed: “Sustainability of the airline industry in 3D – an African perspective: People, Profit, Planet”, the workshop elaborated the current landscape of African airspace on the 3 pillars of sustainability, the challenges and opportunities for improvement and covered a panel session that discussed specific actions in details, making key recommendations for Africa’s Sustainability Roadmap.

The main areas covered:

1. Profit: Economic Sustainability
i. Intra-Africa connectivity
ii. Cooperation and collaboration
iii. Operating environment challenges
iv. Business models and airline operations
v. Digital transformation and Innovation

2. Planet: Environment
i. Where is Africa on the 2050 Net Zero journey – short term to long term plays
ii. Focus on SAF in Africa
iii. Operational Efficiencies by airports, air traffic management and airlines
iv. Practical considerations for fuel efficiency improvements

3. People: Human capital development, diversity and gender
i. Social impact of aviation
ii. Initiatives to meet the future capacity building needs of the air transport sector in Africa.
iii. The link between diversity and inclusion and the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) for a sustainable Aviation Sector.
iv. Recommendations on Policies which promote gender equity/diversity and inclusion.
